Connect your school Outlook
If your school email runs on Microsoft (Outlook, Office 365), you connect it by signing in with Microsoft on Microsoft's own page. Gloss never sees your password.
Steps
- In Gloss, tap your school email on Connect your school (during setup) or in Settings.
- Gloss tells you that Claude, an AI made by Anthropic, reads your school email to find deadlines, and asks if that's OK. Tap Continue to agree.
- Tap to sign in. Microsoft's page opens. Sign in with your school account.
- Microsoft lists what Gloss asks for: read your mail, maintain access to data you have given it access to, and your email address. Tap Accept.
- You're back in Gloss. It starts reading the last 30 days (or since your term started).
"Need admin approval"
Many schools don't let students approve apps that read mail. Microsoft's default settings for schools block it, so this is common and not something you did wrong. If you see Need admin approval, Gloss shows Your school needs to approve Gloss and remembers it for your school. What to do.
What Gloss can and can't do
- It can read email in your inbox to find deadlines, exam changes and events.
- It can't send, delete, move or change anything, and it doesn't download attachments.
- Sensitive email (health, counseling, disability, Title IX, conduct, financial aid, visa office) is never sent to AI. Gloss finds it by matching words and senders, so it can miss one.
- The subject and text of each email are deleted from Gloss 30 days after it was read.
Disconnect
Settings, then your school email, then Disconnect. Gloss deletes its new mail subscription at Microsoft, its access, every email it stored, the deadlines and events it found only in that email, and the email's summaries. Microsoft doesn't let apps remove themselves, so to remove Gloss from your Microsoft account too, go to myapps.microsoft.com, find Gloss, and remove it.
