Terms of Service

Standby Ops LLC · Draft of October 3, 2026 · Covers Gloss.

These terms are an agreement between you and Standby Ops LLC ("we", "us"). Part 1 applies to every Standby Ops app. Part 2 adds the rules for Gloss. By creating an account or using an app, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

Part 1: All Standby Ops apps

Who can use our apps

  • You must be at least 13, live in the United States, and be able to agree to these terms. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should review these terms with you.
  • Keep your account to yourself. You're responsible for what happens in it. Tell us right away at security@joingloss.app if you think someone else got in.

Using our apps fairly

Don't:

  • break the law or anyone's rights using our apps;
  • try to get into other people's accounts or data, or get around our security or limits;
  • overload, scrape, copy or reverse engineer our service, except as the law allows;
  • use our apps to harass anyone or to post false or harmful information.

Good faith security research that follows our Security page is welcome.

Your content

What you put in our apps stays yours. You give us permission to store, process and display it only to run the app for you, as our Privacy Policy describes. We don't claim ownership of it.

Our apps

We own the apps, their design and their name. We give you a personal, non transferable right to use them while you follow these terms. We may change features, and we tell you before we remove something you paid for.

  • Buying on iPhone: Apple charges you, under Apple's terms. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel in your Apple ID settings at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Buying on a computer: Stripe charges you for us. You can cancel any time; the plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for. Email support@joingloss.app about refunds.
  • One time passes are paid once, don't renew, and end on the date shown when you buy.
  • Prices are shown before you pay. If a subscription price goes up, we tell you first, and you can cancel before it applies.

Ending

You can stop using an app and delete your account at any time in its settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk, and we tell you why unless the law or safety prevents it. Sections that by their nature should continue (like ownership, disclaimers and limits of liability) continue after an account closes.

Disclaimers

Our apps are provided "as is". We work hard to make them accurate and available, but we can't promise they will always be right, complete or available.

Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, Standby Ops LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $50.

Disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia, USA. Before filing any claim, email us so we can try to fix it. [The dispute resolution method is for the lawyer to decide.]

Apple

If you got the app from the App Store: these terms are between you and Standby Ops LLC, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app, its support, or claims about it. Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms as third party beneficiaries.

Changes

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.

Part 2: Gloss

What Gloss is, and isn't

Gloss collects your deadlines and events from your school email, course site, schedule and syllabi so you see them in one place. It is a helper, not your school's official record:

  • Your course site, your professors and your school decide what's due and when. If Gloss and an official source disagree, the official source is right.
  • Gloss never invents a date or a time, but it can miss something, a source can fail, or AI can misread an email. When a source stops syncing, Gloss tells you. Check your official sources for anything important.
  • Reminders are sent on a best effort basis. A missed reminder doesn't change any deadline.
  • Gloss is not affiliated with, endorsed by or run by any university.

Your school email and data

  • You connect school email only by signing in with Google or Microsoft, and Gloss only reads it. You can disconnect any time in Settings.
  • Your school may not allow outside apps to read school email. Following your school's rules is your responsibility; Gloss shows when your school needs to approve it.
  • We never share your email content, or anything extracted from it, with other students or with your school.

Study tutor rules (Plus)

The study tutor helps you learn. It follows rules that protect you and your classes:

  • It follows each class's AI policy from the syllabus. If a class doesn't allow AI, the tutor won't help with that class's graded work.
  • It never answers questions on a quiz, test or exam that is in progress, and it never writes work for you to hand in as your own.
  • You are responsible for following your school's academic integrity rules. Don't use Gloss to break them.
  • If you write something that sounds like you might hurt yourself or are in crisis, the tutor stops studying and points you to people who can help, like the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The tutor is not a counselor, doctor or emergency service. In an emergency, call 911.

Class corrections

Students can suggest a correction to a class date (for example, "the quiz moved to Friday"):

  • Only students verified in the same class can suggest or confirm a correction.
  • Corrections show the label "from classmates", never replace the official date, and update for others only after classmates confirm.
  • Corrections are anonymous to other students. We keep who made them so we can stop abuse.
  • Only post what you believe is true. Don't post answers, exam content or anything about a person. You can report a correction; we may remove corrections and suspend accounts that misuse them.

Plans

  • Free: classes, deadlines, email, reminders and widgets.
  • Plus monthly: $5.99 a month, renews automatically until you cancel.
  • Fall term pass: $20, paid once, doesn't renew, and ends on your school's term end date shown when you buy.
  • Plus includes monthly limits shown in the app. On iPhone you pay through Apple; on the computer apps, through Stripe. Refunds follow "Paid plans" in Part 1. Family Sharing is not available.

Availability

Gloss is for students at US universities. Gmail connections are limited to 100 students until Google's review is complete; everything else works without it.
